Pirate Party, recommends [0]doing away with copyright laws since no one
is following them anyway. FTA: '...he uses examples from the buttonmakers
guild in 1600s France to justify eliminating the five major parts of
copyright law today. The first two are cover duplication and public
performance, and piracy today has ruined those. The next two cover rights
of the creator to get credit and prevent other performances, satires,
remixes, etc they don't like. Falkvinge says [1]giving credit is
important, but not worthy of a law. Finally, "neighboring rights" are
used by the music industry to block duplication, which Falkvinge
rejects.'"

An anonymous reader writes "The Toronto Review of Books claims that the
majority of digital books are awful because major publishers are
[0]handing over the design work to programmers, not artists and editors.
This results in the 'typographical horrors' typical of so many eBooks,
and hundreds of 'lackluster' iPad adaptations. 'Programmers are suddenly
being given free reign to design books,' the article laments. 'Most
publishers don't care about the iPad or eBooks very much... which may be
an aesthetic rejection based on the publisher's historical reverence for
the printed page.' Don't we deserve better eBooks?"

amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air. Down the road, the new

engine. This update is intended to bring you personalized search results
based on your Google+ friends, sharing, pictures and likes. They're
calling it 'Search plus Your World,' and the update is going to

results. For example, if you are searching for images of babies, Google
will now personalize your search results and give high preference to baby
photos from your Google+ circles. TechCrunch is speculating that over
time they will also start adding search results from all the other Google
services, including Google Docs, Gmail, Contacts, Music, Voice, wallet
and so on. Today's launch also uses Google+ data for another purpose:
helping you search for information about people on Google+. For example,

to hasten the project's completion. But now performance issues have

Lockheed Martin a $305 million contract to lead development of Sentinel,

open source mobile OS [1]based on MeeGo (itself a child of Moblin and
Maemo), have [2]posted a preview of their source code and SDK. They warn,
"Please keep in mind that this is a very early preview and is not yet
designed for use to create production applications. Further enhancements
and improvements to Tizen and its development environment will continue
as we work towards a formal release over the coming months." The source

a quantum fluid thousands of times larger than previously, leading to the

in Nature Physics on January 8th, but a pre-press version is [4]available
through arXiv.
