We urge the CHOGM 2018 organisers to include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) human rights on the main CHOGM agenda and to invite openly LGBTI people from the Commonwealth to address the CHOGM leaders. Take action and sign our petition now. The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) has never in its entire six-decade history discussed LGBTI human rights. The time has come. Sign our petition to Commonwealth leaders now. 36 out of the 52 member countries of the Commonwealth criminalise same-sex relations. They account for half of the world’s nations where homosexuality is illegal. Most of these countries inherited their anti-gay laws from Britain during the period of colonial rule; making these laws a colonial hangover. At least eight of these 36 countries have a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for same-sex acts and there is the death penalty in parts of northern Nigeria and rural Pakistan.  Hate crimes against LGBTI people often pass unchecked in most Commonwealth countries, with frequent mob violence. The vast majority of LGBTI people living in Commonwealth states have no legal protection against discrimination in employment, housing and the provision of goods and services.  This makes a mockery of Commonwealth values and the Commonwealth Charter of 2013. Four out of five Commonwealth countries, which are signatories to the Charter, have failed to adhere to its principles. The Commonwealth has failed to ensure that these nations respect the human rights of their LGBTI citizens. We urge CHOGM 2018 to lead the way in raising awareness of LGBTI rights as human rights and to act to remedy LGBTI rights abuses.  We appeal to you to help us achieve this by signing our petition. This dog was abandoned because she wouldn't hunt

Someone threw Sami the dog out of a car and left her for dead.

But by the time a Good Samaritan noticed her hobbling along the side of the road in St. Johns, Florida, she had already wasted away to just skin and bones. Animal rescue workers believe that hunters threw her out of a car and left her for dead because she wouldn't hunt. This is despicable animal abuse and we can't let the perpetrator get away with it. Scientists funded by Volkswagen wanted to see if the latest diesel technology was "cleaner" than older versions. Their brilliant idea was to use live animals to gauge the fuel's toxicity. So they locked the monkeys in chambers, feeding them two things — fours hours of cartoons for entertainment, and toxic gas from a diesel Volkswagen Beetle. Public outrage has already pressured Volkswagen's chief lobbyist to pledge that the company will never test on animals again. While that's a step in the right direction, it's not enough. Volkswagen needs to establish a clear company policy against animal testing and donate to an organization that rescues animals from research testing. This time, a gunman armed with a semi-automatic assault rifle killed at least 17 people in a high school in Parkland, Florida. 17-year-old Noelle was in history class when she heard the gunshots. Freshman Aidan quickly posted pictures on social media showing his class on lockdown. A teacher hid 19 students in a classroom closet. Meanwhile, the rest of America and the world is asking the same question as every other time — will this be enough to get the U.S. government's attention? It has already been well past time that the country banned automatic weapons like the one used yesterday. Time and time again, families and community members have mourned the dead and injured, and lamented America's lax gun laws. Mass shootings have become the new normal, but that does not mean that we should stop taking action. An assault weapons ban was in place for 10 years in the United States before Congress let it expire in 2004. In the 12 years since then, the National Rifle Association lobby (NRA) has successfully stopped the ban from being reauthorized. During that interval, the death toll has spiked significantly. As of this month, all online banking customers will be charged $12 per month for use of a checking account if they don't have direct deposit of $250 or more or at least $1500 in their account at all times. Essentially, Bank of America is charging a fee for being poor or not having a consistent income source. We've seen large banks across the US do this time and time again. They exploit low income Americans, all in the name of padding their own bottom line. We can't let this stand. It shouldn't cost more to be poor. And every American should have access to banking services without being penalized for having a low income.
