action alert! Rare bird hunters poisoned Beidagang wetland reserve to kill endangered oriental storks. China's government needs to protect species in danger. China: Protect Rare Birds from Poison please share it helps!     Dear Annisa, It's pretty reasonable to think that if one wetland reserve in the world supported 20 percent of an endangered species' population, it should be protected from deathly pollution. But hunters killed 20 oriental storks in the Beidagang wetland reserve and, so far, haven't been punished. Superstition about the health benefits of rare wild animals fuels their hunting. The oriental stork has a particularly strong mythology around it in China and Japan. Every fall, 500 oriental storks rest in the Beidagang wetland reserve during their southern migration. This year, though 20 were lost, more than two dozen were saved thanks to swift action by bird watchers and rescuers. But it shouldn't be up in individual good citizens to save a species.
