Annisa,

During the Las Luminarias festival each year in Spain, locals honor Saint Anthony, the patron saint of horses. But the way they celebrate is disturbing and counterintuitive: they force horses to ride through raging flames.

When Care2 member Freya learned about this tradition, she knew she had to do something. Will you sign her petition demanding that the local government ban this practice?

Like other animals, horses are instinctively afraid of fire. Forcing these innocent creatures to rush toward large bonfires causes them to become overwhelmed with terror and confusion. Despite this, the mayor of San Bartolome de Pinares, Spain says the horses "don't suffer anything at all."

There is no excuse for making a frightened animal race through a blazing fire — especially on a day when horses should theoretically be respected. These horses deserve tender care, respect, and peace.

Sign Freya's petition to demand that no horse be made to suffer through this cruel tradition again!

Thank you,

  Miranda B.
