In just the last two months, 13 endangered rhinos have been brutally murdered by armed poachers around the Kaziranga National Park in India.
Dear Annisa,
Gangs of armed poachers have begun to make hunting endangered rhinos a bloodsport. Recently, around Kaziranga National Park, park rangers spent several hours fighting off a gang of poachers trying to kill a rhinoceros. Short-staffed and under-equipped, park rangers were unable to protect the rhinoceros from being hunted down.
Only twenty years ago, one-horned rhinoceros were on the brink of extinction. Now, more than two-thirds of the global population of the rhino live in the Kaziranga National Park. The recent surge of poaching has dramatically demonstrated that Indian park rangers are not equipped to effectively protect the gentle giants. Without adequate protection from the Indian government soon, many believe that the rhino will once again be on the path towards extinction.
Smt. Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of India's Environment and Forests, must step in and heighten the security around Kaziranga National Park. Sign the petition today and urge the Indian government to protect these endangered animals from vicious poacher gangs.
