called ReFS, which stands for Resilient File System. Codenamed
'Protogon,' ReFS will first appear as the storage system for Windows
Server and later be offered to Windows clients. Microsoft plans to
deprecate lesser-used NTFS features while maintaining 'a high degree of

activation system in Ubisoft's RTS game Anno 2070 also tracks hardware
changes: 'So yesterday I started working on a performance review. We know
(well, at least we figured we knew), that the game key can be used on
three systems. That's fair; the first activation is used on my personal
game rig. The second we installed on the AMD Radeon graphics test PC and
the 3rd on our NVIDIA graphics test PC. ... For the NVIDIA setup I take
out the GTX 580, and insert a GTX 590. When I now startup the game,
'BAM', again an activation is required. Once again I fill out the key,
and now Ubisoft is thanking me with the message that I ran out of
activations.' Guru3D subsequently discovered that Ubisoft was less than
helpful: 'Sorry to disappoint you ��� the game is indeed restricted to 3
hardware changes and there simply is no way to bypass that.' I, and many
with me, will never buy games with such a draconian DRM scheme, as it's
very likely that I'll swap out enough components to run into this issue.
[1]Even the Steam version includes this nice 'feature.' It's probably a
good idea to let Ubisoft know why we'll pass on this title."

few dilemmas, and as a casual Slashdotter I could really use some help.
I'll start with a brief explanation of the project. We research issues in
Canadian Immigrants, and found that there was a lack of recent,
unaggregated information. As we dug further, we found that some data was
available, but there was no central repository. Therefore, we are
building a web based service to collect this data, with the intent of
having it display in Google Maps and then be downloadable as a CSV file
that is readable in GIS software such as ESRI Arcsoft, so that data may
be visualized." The dilemma: "...It seems that MS SQL offers more
functions with regards to geometry built in then MySQL, and my developers
(good guys, but MS guys at heart) want me to switch to .net NUKE/MSSQL

alternative to Dreamweaver, and haven't stumbled upon anything that works
the way I need. [0]Aptana and [1]Bluefish are fantastic tools, but I
cannot work exclusively with them, since Bluefish doesn't have that
WYSIWYG functionality that is so important when you're also dealing with
design, and Aptana doesn't have classic ASP support. I don't care much
about the classic ASP support, but, even though I'm a PHP developer, I
give support to classic ASP code on a daily basis. What open source tools
are you guys working with out there? I'm really not looking for a
Dreamweaver clone, just a tool that gets closer to cover my needs:
WYSIWYG, PHP, HTML, CSS support, and less important, classic ASP
support."

at CES. The long-awaited $25 Linux single-board computers are finally
being shipped from the Chinese factory where they're being assembled and
will be available for sale in just a few weeks. Eben talks not only about
the Raspberry Pi boards and the add-on [2]Gertboard, but about the
[3]eBay auction that helped finance Raspberry Pi. Timothy says he
considers Eben Upton one of his "personal tech-world heroes." After

committing at least 52 murders between 1978 and 1990 before he was
caught, tried, and executed. The pattern of his murders, though, was
irregular with long periods of no activity, interrupted by several
murders within a short period of time. Hoping to gain insight into serial
killings to prevent similar murders, Mikhail Simkin and Vwani
Roychowdhury at UCLA [2]built a mathematical model of the time pattern of
the activity of Chikatilo and found the distribution of the intervals
between murders follows a power law with the exponent of 1.4. The basis
of their analysis is the hypothesis that 'similar to epileptic seizures,
the psychotic affects, causing a serial killer to commit murder, arise
from simultaneous firing of large number of neurons in the brain.' In
modeling the behavior the authors didn't find that 'the killer commits
murder right at the moment when neural excitation reaches a certain
threshold. He needs time to plan and prepare his crime' so they built
delay into their model. The killings eventually have a sedative effect,
pushing the neuronal activity below the 'killing threshold' ��� which is
why there are large intervals of time between groups of murders. 'There
is at least [3]qualitative agreement between theory and observation
[PDF],' conclude the authors. 'Stats can't tell you who the perp is, but
they're getting better and better at figuring out where and when the next
crime might happen,' writes criminal lawyer Nathaniel Burney adding that
'catching a serial killer by [4]focusing resources based on when and
where he's likely to strike next is a hell of a lot better than relying
on the junk science of behavioral profiling.'"

Israeli companies, specifically El Al and the Tel Aviv stock exchange.
From the article: 'A hacker identifying himself as oxOmar, already
notorious for posting the details of more than [1]20,000 Israeli credit
cards, sent an overnight warning to Israel's Ynet news outlet that a
group of pro-Palestinian cyberattackers called Nightmare planned to bring
down the sites in the morning.' Though the article is skimpy on technical
details, the group appears to have engaged merely in a DDOS attack. Hamas
praised the attack as opening 'a new resistance front against Israel.' Is
this the first acknowledged cyberwar?"
