have been over-hyped. His argument is that in order to sell people on
hybrid cars, automakers have emphasized the energy efficiency of hybrids
in ideal conditions and failed to tell people that in most ordinary
driving conditions they will not come close to meeting the numbers given.
He refers to a recent case where an individual has chosen to forego
membership in a class action law suit and has instead chosen to go to
small claims court. He suggests that there is a significant chance that
she will win there and that this will open up all of the manufacturers of
hybrid vehicles to similar lawsuits. The article was on a rather partisan
website, so I am curious what factors he has chosen to overemphasize to
make his case. (Or what factors he has chosen to ignore to the same end.)
I know that Slashdot has a large contingent of hybrid and EV supporters
who are well educated on the subject (as well as a large contingent of
those who are not so well educated)."

In the wake of the online theft of at least 6,000 credit card numbers
belonging to Israelis, Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said
that "Israel has active capabilities for striking at those who are trying
to harm it, and [0]no agency or hacker will be immune from retaliatory
action." Also at Reuters, with a few more details about the believed
thief, known as OxOmar: "After Israeli media ran what they said were
interviews conducted with OxOmar over email, the Haaretz newspaper said a
blogger had tracked the hacker down and determined he was a 19-year-old
citizen of the United Arab Emirates studying and working in Mexico."

the idea of a manned trip to the stars may sound audacious, but the
[1]100 Year Starship (100YSS) study is an effort seeded by DARPA to
[2]develop a viable and sustainable model for persistent, long-term,
private-sector investment into the myriad of disciplines needed to make
long-distance space travel practicable and feasible. The goal is not to
have the government fund the actual building of spacecraft destined for
the stars, but rather to create a foundation that can last 100 years in
order to help foster the research needed for interstellar travel. Now
DARPA has provided $500,000 in seed money to help jumpstart the effort
and chosen [3]Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to go into
space, to lead 100YSS. Jemison, who is also a physician and engineer,
left NASA in 1993 after a six-year stint in which she served as science
mission specialist aboard space shuttle Endeavour, becoming the first
black woman to fly in space. Since leaving the space agency, she has been
involved in education and outreach efforts and technology development.
Rounding out her resume, Jemison also [4]served as a medical aofficer for
the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone and Liberia, is a professionally trained
dancer, speaks Russian, Swahili and Japanese, and was the first real
astronaut to make a [5]cameo in an episode of 'Star Trek: The Next
Generation.' Jemison won the contract with her proposal titled 'An
Inclusive Audacious Journey Transforms Life Here on Earth & Beyond.'"

First time accepted submitter jcreus writes "I am a teenager (aged 14,
though turning 15 before summer), and I've recently been looking for
summer camps in the USA. My interests include physics, mathematics (to a
lesser extent) and computer science (I already know several programming
languages). However, I haven't been able to find anything really
exciting. The difficulties I've found include the fact that most are
general-oriented, whereas I'm seeking something specific. Furthermore,
some are USA-student-only (and I'm European), and most computer-science
oriented camps seem to be for non-programmers. What are your experiences
with such camps?"

environment to become part of historical record. [1]The EPA's Locations
Challenge looks to update a 40-year old agency project known as
'Documerica' which included more than 15,000 photographs of images of
American environmental problems and everyday life. In the 1970s the EPA
hired freelance photographers to capture images relating to environmental
problems for the project."
