It happens in Thailand -- and when activists are murdered, their killers are hardly ever brought to justice. Demand Justice for Murdered Thai Environmentalists! please share it helps!     Dear Annisa, In the last decade, 30 environmentalists and human rights activists have been murdered in Thailand, usually for bringing necessary attention to injustices around the country. Fewer than 20 percent of their killers have ever been prosecuted. The most recent case is the murder of Prajob Nao-opas, an environmentalist who led a campaign to reveal the toxic waste being dumped in the Chachoengsao province. The toxins have gotten into water sources, coming from industries on the eastern seaboard of Thailand, and contain substances at a level that is 30 times the safe limit. When Prajob bravely spoke out against this practice, he was summarily assassinated. What's more, reports suggest that the province police force knew Prajob was in danger. They warned him, for instance, that his continued quest to save his local environment could literally get him killed. Yet even as he reported to them that he was being stalked and photographed by strangers, they refused to provide him extra protection -- and Prajob wound up dead. This willful ignorance cannot continue. The Thai government must properly investigate the murders of Prajob Nao-opas and the other activists like him -- and implement protection policies that will ensure that no more of Thailand's activists are silenced by threatened or actual violence.
