Why Buy Raspberry Pi When a Cellphone Will Do?
scorp1us was looking into getting a Raspberry Pi, but ended up needing a case, a display and some way to power it and make it portable. At that point, it seemed that even the most outdated cellphone has far superior features (screen, touch screen, Wifi, 3g/4g camera(s), battery, etc.) in a much better form factor. The only things missing were digital/analog in/out pins, but, again, Slashdotters were there to help.

'Atheist' Merchandise Discriminated Against by USPS
Suspecting that its strongly branded "Atheist" products may be treated differently by more religiously oriented postal regions, Atheist Shoes conducted an experiment. It sent 178 packages to 89 people in different parts of the U.S., each person receiving one package prominently branded as "Atheist" merchandise, and one not. The results confirmed their suspicions.

Best Distro for Linux Newbies?
Ubuntu or Arch or something else? Leap Motion's Grand Gesture Controller
SlashTV: The Leap Motion product (there's only one for now) allows you to control your computer with gestures. And we're not talking about just jumping around, but "painting" on the screen with your fingers (or chopsticks) with fine enough control that Autodesk and other drawing-oriented software vendors are working to make applications compatible with the controller. See the promising peripheral, which ships soon, in action.
